What did our grandparents wear in a beach?

In ancient times, no one was bathing at sea in front of others. Ladies and gentlemen went to the beach at different times and were bathing in a sea water in a special cabins that nobody could see them. Nobody was tanning in the sun, because sunburnt skin was considered to be a symbol of commoners. Beach fashion is a new thing that appeared at the beginning of the 20th century. It radically changed since then, didn't it?
